There are many reasons why you might want to turn to some comfort foods at the end of the day. You might be completely worn out from working so hard all week or be suffering from the effects of a big breakup or bad news. Or, it could just be horrible weather outside and you want to cuddle up with your favorite foods and a good movie. No matter what your reasons are for eating some comfort food, here are some of the most popular choices and some explanation of why we're craving these items.

Something really filling. There is another set of people who want to feel full and satisfied when they are done eating their favorite comfort foods. These are the people who are looking for mashed potatoes, chicken potpie or a hearty bowl of soup. Getting something warm in your stomach on a freezing day can be one of the best feelings in the world. This is about putting a finish on your day. When you feel full you can sometimes also feel that it's time to sit back and relax.

Something salty. This can be the choice of someone who usually lives a pretty fast paced and stressful life. When we are experiencing adrenal exhaustion we can crave something with lots of salt. So, if you've been running around all day getting work done or chasing after the kids than this might be what you're looking for.

One of the issues with comfort foods is that many of them are not very healthy. But if you want the feeling of those foods without leaving behind the healthy choices that you usually have, than there are certainly some choices for you. You could try sorbet instead of ice cream or just add a little cheese sauce to your veggies for something that won't tip the scale.
